Do Not Take it Personal. One of the biggest mistakes people make when they own their own business is that they take customer complaints personally and act on them as if they were a personal insult. Criticisms from clients aren’t personal attacks, and you have to keep your feelings separate from your relationships with clients. Each business issue needs to be dealt with as a business problem, not a personal problem.

Calls and E-mails Must Be Returned. You must not ignore customer inquiries. Whatever the reason that a customer contacts you, you must be sure to answer the customer’s inquiry promptly and professionally. It is customary in the business world to respond to a communication within 24 hours, and most customers expect that you will do so - or even respond faster if there is a crucial matter - so be sure that you check your messages on a regular basis and interact with your customers constantly.

Schedule Some Time Off. A lot of business owners neglect to do this, and without some time off it leads to difficulties. Everyone needs a break and while running your own business can be difficult you still need to schedule time for yourself to get away and recharge your batteries. Plan on taking a day here or there where you can have some personal time and not worry about business for a while.

Count on Your Employees. By taking on a little more responsibility and taking all of the pressure off of you that you hired your employees for a reason and you need to allow your employees the ability to feel like they are part of the company’s success. You need to give your employees a feeling of entitlement in the business so that they can work hard towards the success of the business right along side of you.

Keep Organized. Don’t ever presume that you can monitor all that’s significant. If you make an appointment find a way to mark it down so you do not forget. You can then create a reminder system for yourself to get the job done if you have bills to pay by a particular date. Because it completely slipped your mind,there is no worse feeling than missing an important deadline. You can prevent this from occurring to you if you learn successful methods of keeping organized.
