Accounting Software Can Help Make Tax Time Less Stressful
Business owners and individuals alike get a little stressed when tax season rolls around. With all the tax paperwork, forms, submissions, and payments that must be made that accrue in the first quarter of each year, anything that could make this process easier and less stressful is clearly a benefit. financial software does an excellent job at easing the load around tax time for all parties involved.
What can software do to ease the workload and reduce stress? It can compile all the necessary forms (1040s, 1099s, W-2s, etc.) so that your tax accountant does not have to.
Before accounting software guides could be printed out electronically, the raw data had to be given to tax accountants around tax time. CPAs and tax accountants would then need to sort through all of the data, find the relevant information, and file the taxes.
Ever since financial software reviews, however, this arduous process has been a thing of the past. Yes, tax time is still stressful, and it will be as long as taxes exist. However, as long as the data is inputted into the program in a consistent and continual manner, most accounting programs can compile and print out summaries to give to a CPA.
WHAT TO LOOK FOR
As you look for new financial software programs, tax-reporting functionality is one of the most important features to look out for. Why? Although it is a dry and ‘boring’ feature (no one finds tax accounting enthralling), it can save your business time and money.
It can be a little more difficult to discern exactly what to look for in accounting software if you are looking for features that make filing taxes easier. Most, if not all, of the popular accounting programs have special tax-accountant features. The difference, which can be spotted when reading financial software reviews, is that some programs are more comprehensive in this regard than others.
Also be sure the check that your software of choice has a comprehensive payroll module. The best programs will allow you to provide detailed information about each employee of your business (W-2 vs. 1040 employees, for example).
Finally, ask your CPA himself which he prefers. All the accounting program reviews in the world can be whisked away by a CPA who despises working with reports provided by a particular program. On the other hand, an experienced CPA who prefers a particular accounting software program usually does so for a good reason. Ask him his opinion and his justifications for his preferences.
Tax time doesn’t have to be as stressful as it tends to be for businesses. If you let accounting programs do the heavy lifting for you, then it can be, if not a relaxing time, then a less stressful time.
